Stop Posting Content. Start Posting Proof.
There’s a content trap a lot of local businesses fall into — and it’s an easy one to miss because it looks like good marketing. The trap is this: posting content that tells people you’re good at what you do instead of showing them.
“We’re passionate about serving our community.” “We go above and beyond for our clients.” “Quality is our top priority.” Sound familiar? These phrases appear on thousands of local business pages, and they all carry the same fatal flaw — they’re claims without evidence, and readers have quietly learned to scroll right past them.
Here’s the tip: Replace one self-described quality this week with a real, specific example of it.
Instead of: “We’re committed to fast turnaround.”
Try: “A local nonprofit came to us with a fundraiser flyer that needed to go out in 24 hours. Here’s what we built for them — and what they said after.”
That second version does three things the first cannot. It proves the claim. It names a community member (even implicitly). And it gives a potential client a scenario they might recognize themselves in.
Specificity is the most underused content tool in local marketing. You don’t need a bigger budget, a better platform, or a viral moment. You need to swap vague superlatives for concrete stories. One specific proof-point per week, consistently, will build more trust than a year of polished but generic captions.
Our Town Matters builds content strategies around this exact principle — because in community-facing work, credibility isn’t claimed. It’s demonstrated.
